November ROTM - Denton Turkey Roll - Nov 17

Rally of The Month - November 17, 2007 The ROTM is the 25th Anniversary Denton Turkey Roll sponsored by Kiwanis International. From the website:The 25th Turkey Roll will be like riding with an old friend and a new one at the same time. For 2007, we have changed two of our three routes. While the short course will be unchanged, the middle distance will remain the same, only this year we will run it in the opposite direction. The big change in the ride will be the new 71 mile Long Course. Again, all three courses will begin and end at the North Texas Fairgrounds (Corner of University Drive/Highway 380 @ Carroll Blvd.) right behind the Kroger Grocery Store. The physical address of the Fairgrounds for those wishing to do a Google map is 2217 N. Carroll Blvd. The new Long Course will take cyclists over beautiful Lake Ray Roberts 4 times! And that's just for starters. As you continue west on Highway 590, you'll find yourself in the quaint town of Valley View. The Valley View square is a throw back of a time long past. Continue west on 590 to the Era community and turn south on Highway 51, at the famous Terrell King rest stop. This smooth 4 lane features a wide shoulder and will take you to Gregory Road. While you ride the hills and dales of Gregory, look around you and notice how high this area is. You can see for miles and miles. Now, turn right on Highway 2151 and look to your right and see the lineup of about 25 vintage pick up trucks. These trucks have already seen their best days, but you'll enjoy seeing these old road warriors one last time. It's through the Town of Bolivar and south to Krum. Here, the course picks up where it left off, reminding you of the good ole days of prior Turkey Roll Rallies. Over Interstate 35 and back to the Fairgrounds, where we invite you to have a hot dog with us and listen to some live music while you make plans for next years Turkey Roll. Every 25 years or so, things need to be shaken up a little. If you remember the Turkey Roll 10, you remember the 100% cotton long sleeved shirts. Well, for Turkey Roll 25 they're back. We'll have a long sleeved shirt for the first 500 people that sign up for the ride.
